This week, we have one goal. To talk about mental illness. To promote the importance of mental health. And to spread the message that it is ok to be not ok.
Mental illness. It’s an issue that is bigger than most in contemporary times, given our modern obsession with developing plastic representations of our own lives through the means of social media. Alarming statistics allude to the fact that almost fifty percent of all Australians suffer some form of mental illness throughout their life times. Whether these issues affect you firsthand through anxiety or depression, or you care for a loved one suffering some form of mental illness, this issue influences the lives of every human to a significant extent.
We all have bad days. But it’s so important to realise that it is both ok and important to talk about them, and whatever else is on our mind. This week, I challenge you to have the conversation. Ask a friend how they’re travelling. Go out for coffee. Give a warm hug. Surround those you love with your love, because you can never underestimate the power of a random act of kindness, or a genuine gesture of love.
If you or a loved one is currently suffering any form of mental illness, I urge you to have the conversation, and to visit the Beyondblue website here. Remember, you are loved, and recovery is possible. You are braver than you know, and stronger than you think.
And here you are living, despite it all
